Apple is reportedly moving forward with its long-rumored foldable iPhone, and new leaks provide fresh insights into its design and features. According to Digital Chat Station, a trusted source from Apple’s supply chain, the upcoming foldable device will include some surprising changes to camera placement and screen design.
Outer Display to Feature Hole-Punch Camera
One of the most notable claims is that Apple’s foldable iPhone will have a hole-punch front camera on its external display. This aligns with recent rumors suggesting Apple is following the trend set by other foldables, such as the Pixel Fold.
Meanwhile, the internal display will include an under-display camera, making it possible to enjoy a full-screen experience without any visible cutouts. The outer screen is said to use a 14.6:1 aspect ratio, while the inner screen features a slightly more compact 14.1:1 ratio.
Sleeker Design and Integrated Touch ID
The leak reveals that Apple has developed a slightly smaller engineering prototype compared to earlier test units, while maintaining the same resolution and aspect ratios. To conserve internal space, Apple has reportedly integrated a Touch ID sensor into the side button, much like on some iPad models.
Apple is unlikely to include Face ID in the foldable design, likely because of space constraints or challenges in integrating the required sensors into a foldable screen.
Reliable Track Record Behind the Leak
Digital Chat Station has accurately leaked Apple features in the past. Notably, they correctly predicted that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus would feature smaller 48MP sensors than the Pro models. They also shared early details about the iPhone 12’s display design back in 2020.
Foldable iPhone Specifications and Launch Timeline
Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to include:
- A 7.8-inch crease-free inner display
- A 5.5-inch outer display
- Dual rear cameras
- Front cameras on both inner and outer screens
The device will reportedly support photography and video in both folded and unfolded modes, ensuring flexible camera performance.
Production Timeline and Pricing
Respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple is finalizing the hardware specifications during Q2 2025. However, another analyst, Jeff Pu, claims the device has already entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase at Foxconn, suggesting Apple may be closer to production readiness.
Apple plans to begin mass production in Q4 2026 and aims to release the device by late 2026.
Rumors suggest the first-gen foldable iPhone will cost between $2,000 and $2,300, making it the most premium phone in Apple’s lineup.
